April 2025

Lesbian Visibility Day

Chappell Roan, King Princess, Cat Burns, Hayley Kiyoko, Girl in Red. These are a few of the artists who identify as lesbian and have embraced their queer-ness and integrated it into their music and artistry. Every year, lesbian visibility day is celebrated on April 26th, representation, belonging, celebration and joy is vital when showing visibility because it paves the way for younger, older and everyone in between, to feel able to embrace who they are and to have healthy self-acceptance.

I remember my first time of feeling like I was visible on a wider scale, besides the fear and uncertainty, I felt like I wasn’t alone and that it was possible to be who I knew I was and that there would be people around to help support me and navigate my feelings. Hearing queer song lyrics, seeing queer relationships play out on the big and little screen, still gives me that joy and hope knowing I’m not alone, that we can be in a world where we can express who we are.

This year, Listen, watch, read lesbian stories and remember you aren’t alone, maybe ask yourself, what story will you remember in years to come, that made you feel it was possible to be who you are?
